600 Mats Delivered in 5 Days: How BKM Helped Protect a Music Festival in Daegu

Project Overview

The customer was an event contractor in Daegu, South Korea. He was preparing a music festival on a grass site.

Before the event opened, service vehicles, equipment carts, staff, and setup crews all needed to move across the grass. The schedule was fixed, so the customer could not wait for better weather or rebuild the site route slowly.

His main concerns were:

* How to let vehicles and pedestrians use the grass area safely;

* How to reduce mud and slipping if it rained;

* How to avoid expensive turf repair after the event;

* How to install and remove the road quickly;

* Whether the mats could be reused for future events.

For an event project, the biggest risk is time. Once the event date is confirmed, there is no room for long ground preparation. If the grass turns muddy or gets damaged by vehicles, the organizer may face safety complaints, delayed setup, and high turf repair costs.

Our Solution

BKM recommended a lightweight HDPE temporary road mat instead of a heavy construction mat.

First order specification:

* Quantity: 600 mats

* Material: HDPE

* Size: 1000 × 2000 mm / 3.28 ft × 6.56 ft

* Base thickness: 10mm

* Thickness with two-sided texture: 20mm

* Weight: about 22kg per mat

* Effective area: 2.00 m² per mat

* Dynamic load: 20–30 tons

* Static load: 50 tons

* Surface: double-sided anti-slip tread

* Use: temporary event access, grass protection, pedestrian routes, service vehicle routes

* Delivery time: completed within 5 days

Each mat covers 2.00 m².

600 mats give the customer about 1,200 m² of total protected area.

If arranged as a 2m-wide temporary access road, 600 mats can create about 600m of protected route. If arranged as a 4m-wide service vehicle route, the same quantity can create about 300m of access road.

We recommended this specification because the project needed fast installation, safe movement, and easy reuse. A 22kg mat is much easier to carry, lay, stack, and transport than a heavy-duty construction mat. This was important because the customer needed to deploy the mats before the festival and remove them quickly after the event.

The double-sided anti-slip tread was also important. During a music festival, the same route may be used by staff, pedestrians, equipment carts, and light service vehicles. On wet grass, a smooth board would not be enough. The tread pattern helped create a safer temporary route during setup and event operation.

Our sales manager reminded the customer that these mats were not a one-event purchase. After the festival, they could be removed, cleaned, stored, and reused for future concerts, outdoor events, exhibitions, or other temporary grass access projects.

Because the event schedule was tight, BKM arranged fast production and completed delivery of 600 mats within 5 days.

Result and Takeaway

The customer used the 600 mats for the Daegu music festival and was satisfied with the result.

The route was installed quickly before the event. It helped create a cleaner and safer access path across the grass, reduced direct vehicle and pedestrian damage to the turf, and made the site easier to manage if the ground became wet.

The customer also saw the value of reuse. The mats could be removed after the event and prepared for the next project instead of being treated as a one-time cost.

Within one month, the customer placed another full-container order.

For event contractors, this is the practical point:

Do not wait until the grass becomes mud before thinking about access roads. Plan the vehicle route, pedestrian route, loading area, and turning points before the event starts.

A lightweight 1000 × 2000 mm HDPE mat is a practical choice when the project needs fast installation, easy handling, simple storage, and repeated use across multiple events.

Start with enough mats to protect the key route first. If the first event proves the product useful, build a larger inventory for future festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and outdoor rental projects.
