Access Without Overlooking Finished Surfaces: BKM HDPE Mats for a Vietnamese Contractor
Project Overview
Our customer in Vietnam had unfinished access ground beside areas that were already complete.
Their industrial park work was progressing in phases, but equipment and materials still needed to move between work zones.
The customer wanted to protect the access route without overlooking the paving and landscaping already handed over.
Seasonal rain added another concern for outdoor operations. Vietnam’s rainfall pattern varies by region, so location remained part of the review.
They contacted BKM for a reusable mat arrangement that could move as the work progressed.
We started by separating the surfaces and traffic, rather than assigning one mat specification to the whole site.
What the Customer Needed to Balance
- Temporary access across assessed unfinished ground.
- Careful protection of completed surfaces along the route.
Relocation of the mat inventory as construction phases changed.

Our Solution
Our HDPE Mat Selection
| Product detail | Specification |
| Material | HDPE |
| Standard panel size | 1220 × 2440 mm |
| Nominal thickness | 20 mm |
| Connections | Compatible two-way and four-way connectors |
| Custom work | Cutting and drilling to an agreed drawing where required |
| Use | Approved construction access zones; finished surfaces reviewed separately |
We used a standard connected format as the basis for the outdoor access discussion.
We did not assume that approval on unfinished ground automatically approved the same arrangement over completed paving.
Why We Divided the Site into Zones
The customer’s problem involved both access and protection. Those requirements needed different checks.
We reviewed the equipment used on each part of the route, including its working load and contact with the ground.
We paid particular attention to joints and transitions where materials or equipment moved onto a different surface.
Small-wheel handling equipment needed a separate review. A mat suitable for larger tires is not automatically suitable for a pallet truck.
For completed areas, we emphasized clean panel undersides, compatible contact surfaces, and a controlled removal process.
Any additional protective layer or ground-preparation material remained outside our mat-and-connector supply scope.
What BKM Did During Specification and Supply
Our team kept the standard panel dimensions and the required custom details in the same specification package.
We discussed connector positions before production so site crews were not left to improvise the connections.
Where a different panel size was needed, the drawing identified it separately rather than relying on uncontrolled site cutting.
Our follow-up covered machining details, the surface finish, and how different panel groups were identified for packing.
Production photographs and packing information helped the customer review the order against the agreed requirements.
We also kept the specification available for later additions, so a new batch could be checked against the original arrangement.
Customer Value and Takeaway
The solution focused on controlled movement between work zones, not indiscriminate coverage of the entire industrial park.
A consistent mat inventory gave the purchasing discussion a clear basis for phased use and future additions.
At the same time, we kept finished-surface protection and small-wheel traffic from being overlooked.
For contractors working beside completed areas, the important question is where a standard panel works and where another detail is needed.
We help define that boundary before the order, rather than assuming every surface and every vehicle behave alike.
